Dive Training / Instructor

PADI Instructor Courses are offered regularly here in Cairns and are very popular. The courses are offered approximately every 2 to 3 months. Please e-mail us if you are interested, don't forget to let us know the month and year you are considering for the course.

The PADI Instructor Courses consist of 3 parts:

  • The Instructor Development Course (IDC): In 14 days you will learn how to teach scuba diving in the classroom (theory), pool and open water. After successful completion of the IDC you can attend the Instructor Evaluation (IE). After the IDC, you can participate in an IDC+ course if you wish.

  • The Instructor Development Course Plus Course (IDC+): A 2 day course that offers additional training. Fine-tune your presentation techniques for classroom and pool. With this additional course you get the maximum preparation needed to successfully participate in the Instructor Evaluation (IE) exams. This course is not a prerequisite for the Instructor Evaluation, however, it is highly recommended.

Requirements

There are a couple of requirements in order to become a PADI Dive Instructor. These are the absolute minimum needed. Personally, we recommend diving for a few years and making at least 100 logged dives before you consider taking the course. Also, it is handy to first gain eperience as a Dive Master before moving on to the next level.

PADI's minimum requirements are as follows:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Show proof of at least 6 months as a certified diver
  • Have at least 60 logged dives when you start with the IDC, but must have at least 100 logged dives to participate at the Instructor Evaluation (IE) exams
  • Be a PADI Assistant Instructor or PADI Divemaster (or equivalent)
  • Have an Australian Standard medical certificate, less than 12 months old, stating that you are fit to dive more details on dive medicals
  • Have a First Aid (resuscitation) certificate less than 2 years old
